About the challenge

Color Challenge is a quick color-perception drill with two modes: a 30-second sprint where each miss costs time, or an endless run where three misses end the game. Every board contains tiles of one color with exactly one odd tile. As your score climbs the grid grows from 2×2 to 5×5 and the gap between the base color and the odd tile keeps shrinking — down to a fixed floor that keeps every board honestly solvable.

Everything runs locally in your browser. No account, no upload: each mode's best score is stored separately in local storage on this device, and the PNG challenge card is generated on the fly for sharing.

Frequently asked questions

What modes are there and how is it scored?

Pick a mode on the intro screen: '30-second sprint' counts down while a correct pick scores +1 and a miss costs 2 seconds; 'Endless' has no clock — you get 3 lives, each miss costs one, and the run ends after three misses. Your score is the number of correct picks.

How are the tiles generated? Is every board solvable?

Each board is a random set of identical tiles with exactly one odd-colored tile at a random position. The grid grows from 2×2 to 5×5 and the color gap narrows as you score, but a fixed floor guarantees the odd tile is always genuinely different — no unsolvable boards.

Where is my best score stored?

Only in this device's browser localStorage, recorded separately per mode — nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no global ranking. The 'Clear local record' button on the result screen deletes the current mode's record anytime.

Why does the board change when I come back?

Switching away auto-pauses and hides the board. Resuming deals a fresh board with your score and remaining time or lives kept, so pausing can't be used to memorize the answer.

Does my score say anything about my eyesight?

No. It's a casual mini-game; your score depends on screen brightness, gamut, ambient light and reflexes. It is not a vision test or a color-blindness diagnosis.

Can I play on a phone or with a keyboard?

Yes. Every tile is a real button: tap, click, or Tab-focus plus Enter/Space all work. Each pick settles only once per board.
